Say It Better
Words like very, big, good and nice are correct, but they won’t impress an IELTS examiner. Choose the phrase that says it better.
Words go together. We say heavy rain but strong wind, and bitterly cold, not strongly cold. These partnerships are called collocations, and examiners notice them.
Better doesn’t mean fancier. A magnificent problem isn’t better than a big problem. It’s wrong! The best word is the one that is precise and natural: a serious problem.
