Why do different AI tools give my IELTS essay different band scores?
AI tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini can be useful for assessing your IELTS Writing, but their band scores are estimates, not official results. Different tools may give different scores for the same essay.
The secret is to ask the right questions. Rather than simply asking AI to give you a band score, try this prompt:
“Act as an IELTS Writing examiner. Assess my essay using the official IELTS Writing band descriptors. Give me an estimated band score for each of the four criteria. Explain your assessment, identify my three most important weaknesses and show me how to improve them.”
Use the feedback to improve your writing. That’s much more valuable than concentrating on the score alone.
